The efforts to find your space in the world of social media continues to be perplexing, overwhelming, and exciting. After holding out, really for no real reason other than my own stubbornness, I’ve joined Google+. It all feels so much the same any more, we go through the motions, we sign up, we find a little excitement, we see people we haven’t seen in a while and are reconnected momentarily to old memories in a new way.

As someone who spends a majority of my time socializing in the digital realm to make a living, the new ideas are always exciting to me. Though now, they seem to come at a pace that nobody can possibly keep up with. Case in point, I also signed up for Pinterest this week, and am looking forward to a couple of other social sites that should be launching in the near future. While I struggle to maintain with updating blogs, Facebooks, Tumblrs, Twitters, and LinkedIn, I will now have a few more places to build my digital resume in the form of the future, content creation. That’s all we’ll ever be on the internet, is content creators. Get used to it, embrace it, and try to find the best ways to be yourself.

The most interesting thing about all of these conduits of creative outwardness, is that so often in the world of social media, “experts” (take that with a mountain of Morton’s) have continued to say that the best digital strategy is that each platform should have unique content. For me to update each of these social outlets a few times per day would take up a large portion of my day that I am not willing to give up. Time is the most valuable thing in life, I refuse to let any moment to stare at the ocean pass me by without a fight.

So, with all of the experts telling us to spend more time creating unique content for each of the countless social media platforms, there is one thing that I think has been overlooked. We are as unique as it gets being human beings. Rather than try to create something different, or be slightly different, maybe take a step back and see that the way someone else says it should be done, might not be the way you do it. After all the best thing about social media from now until the end of time, will always be the same thing, the human element and the uniqueness that each of us brings to this homogenizing world.

Formula 1 Circuit of the Americas – Austin Texas

My friends over at @whtcollarcrime just sent over this new Red Bull video of the Circuit of the Americas. I figured since the rest of Formula 1 seems to be bowing down to Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing this season, I may as well tip my cap to them as well. Red Bull is one of the best at creative marketing, and if you’re a race fan, this 6 minutes is well worth your time. One of the things I respect the most about Red Bull’s approach to most of their digital strategy is their ability to pull in local pieces and community into their global efforts. The Mississippi River skate park is a good example of that, in that you get to know the reason, and the importance of it to the local Red Bull athletes, Huckleberry Finn style.

Austin, Texas, is an amazing city, and after living there for a year, I’m happy to see the economy there stil prospering, and even happier to see Formula 1 return to the US. Hopefully there won’t be any cowboys wrangling race cars next November though, I don’t think Red Bull can give you wings to get out of the way of F1.
